What is Adaptive Website Framework?
AWF is a modern Open Source Content Management System and development framework based on PHP 5 and the Smarty template engine. It features support for multiple Web sites and languages, content versioning, caching, basic staging, community-portal functions (online list, forums, instant messages, newsletters, weblogs, wiki,...), image upload and galleries, a lexicon, a modular full-text search engine, an auto repair function for database tables, XML and PDF export as well as RSS and LDAP support. Fully flexible URLs allow the replacement of existing static Web sites.
It is available for free under the terms of the GNU General Public License.
The old release, AWF 1.11, is not maintained anymore but still available.
What is special about AWF?
AWF Version 2 is thoroughly based on modern technologies like XHTML, CSS, XML and a powerful Wiki syntax. It was designed to be simple yet powerful and fast right from the start.
Examples
Images can be edited, converted and resized by simply changing the URL:
- admin_area.html will show you details about the screenshot.
- admin_area.png?width=400&height=200 changes the size of it to 400x200 pixels.
- admin_area.jpg converts it into a JPEG file.
Documents can also be easily converted by changing the file extension in the URL:
The development of the core started when PHP 5 was available and contains almost no legacy code. The object-oriented structure can be easily understood and extended. After providing some interface methods, AWF will care about user management, caching, layout, images, permissions, full-text search and all the other stuff that absorbe so much valuable time.
Who can benefit from using AWF?
Small and medium-sized businesses, research groups at universities, educational institutions as well as private users. The latest release can also be used in situations where many editors work at the same time or where the content is held for review before publication.
Ok, I like it! How can I support the project?
We are constantly looking for additional Software Developers and XHTML Template Designers. Donations are also very welcome, as even free software developers have to pay their bills ;-)
